Dominique is the Founding Artist of Affirmative Artistry. She is a life-long resident of New Orleans, Louisiana. Being educated under jurisdiction of the Orleans Public School Board, Dominique was referred by a teacher, state-tested, then became a TAV (Talented Arts Visual) Gifted Art student, as a 3rd grader of Stuart R. Bradley Elementary School in 8th ward New Orleans; which is now known as Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School. Growing up to have had an understanding that she was "different" from many, and sometimes it may show in received treatment versus others, she began to experience her first encounters of Affirmative Action. As she became more familiar throughout the years, Dominique created a space safe for all to create with no outside judgement, Affirmative Artistry.
Paying it forward has become a requirement in her life to ensure that her ancestors are please with how she is maintaining her earthly gift. It continues to follow her throughout her journeys, and one of the only things to keep her spirit safe. With this, Dominique share her gift of art throughout communities in New Orleans.
Dominique has taught art is schools, community centers, after-school programs, and throughout many programming partnerships throughout the city. While still maintaining a daytime career in the social justice world of New Orleans, Dominique provides for her 3 children, while advocating for the many children and adults that crosses her path throughout the city. Through her creative programming processes, interactive activities, and effective data research analysis, Dominique is now decades in of making a difference by changing the narrative within her generation by breaking generational curses, reaching one trauma-stricken resident at a time. Affirmative Artistry is a safe haven in New Orleans for Artists of all genres create in fellowship.
